Stephen Strittmatter, currently holds the Vincent Coates Professorship of Neurology and co-founded the Yale Program in Cellular Neuroscience, Neurodegeneration and Repair. His research on axonal growth during development and regeneration has earned wide recognition. Dr. Strittmatter discovered a Nogo Receptor pathway that plays a central role in determining the ability of axons to extend and re-connect after injury. His current efforts are focused on the discovery of additional repair pathways by identifying genetic factors limiting axonal regeneration thus facilitating design of novel therapeutics.
